I received a collection notice from Convergent Outsourcing Inc. trying to collect a debt that I did not know of. When I called the phone number given in the letter and ask questions them representative refused to answer my questions. They kept asking for my social security number, my date of birth, which I refused to give over the phone. I only asked for what type of debt, what type of bills I owed, who did I owed to. They refused to answer all those questions. All they want to know first is my social security and my date of birth. Which I refused to give so they did not give me any information.

Please be ware, I think this is a part of IDENTITY THEFT SCAM. Please call your State Attorney and Consumer Fraud Agencies and stop this kind of Criminals.

The original poster had same questions as I did. The dunning letter contains no details of the supposed debt.

Why would you then provide SSN and contact information to this firm?

If they cannot provide evidence of a claim, there is no claim. If you provide them information then they will harass you.

I am handling the affairs of a parent who died this year. This company Convergent sent a bill for $1,000 exactly claiming it was owed to a local hospital.

The letter had no date of service and that amount is not one of the hospital bills being paid or already paid. I suggest it is an attempt to scam the "estate".

Be sure to send back a letter disputing the debt to any collector like this. Also use *67 when you call them or they will have a phone number to further harass you.

This is a law that has to be followed by any debit collection company, they can not release any information to the wrong person. If someone called you telling you, you owe a debit and the debit was not for you and you paid it anyways you would be upset. That's why BY LAW they have to ask.

I received a bill from these people saying I owed them thousands of dollars from medical services allegedly provided to me 10 years ago. I have never received a bill for the amount that they were requesting as I am sure the amount would stand out since it was a high amount.

Ridiculous. I assume that this is just a load of #$%^ because so far, I am seeing a lot of information very similar to mine on ripoffreport.com, I am not surprised. They have not reported anything to the credit agencies. I am still waiting to see if that happens.

I sent them a request asking them to give me all of the information they have pertaining to these said "bills" that I owe. I have not received any calls...

just a letter. BOGUS.

I received a call on 8/24 at 230pm from a woman representing "Convergent Healthcare Recoveries". She asked for me by my first and last name.

She then asked for my date of birth and I responded by asking who they were and why they were calling. She said she needed to verify they had the correct person first by confirming my date of birth. I gave her my date of birth and she immediately said I was the wrong person. When asked how they called my phone number and asked for me by name but didn't have the right DOB, she simply stated another person with the same name must have provided this phone number during a hospital visit.

She never did ask for my social security number; I assume she probably knew I wouldn't give it since I was skeptical of the call already.

I'm sure this is a scam, so I'd stay away...definitely don't give your social.
